Breaking: Stanley Cup champ hits waivers AGAIN!

What a fall from grace!

Just when you thought a career couldn't spiral down any faster, this happens.

Antti Niemi was placed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this season after posting atrocious numbers in relief of Matt Murray. The Florida Panthers took a shot with him when Roberto Luongo succumbed to injury, but the experiment did not yield any results.

With both Luongo and James Reimer healthy, Niemi no longer has a place in Florida. He played 2 games with the Panthers and only completed 1 of them, posting a 5.11 goals against average and 0.872 save percentage. It's an.... improvement over his 7.49 and .797 in Pittsburgh.

The Vegas Golden Knights are currently riding a 4th string goalie with the pileup of injuries they have between the pipes. They may give the former Stanley Cup champion one more swing at it.

Otherwise, it was reported this weekend that the Pittsburgh Penguins are in search of a veteran goalie to backup Matt Murray... oh wait.
