It is time to hang up the skates…

Late on Wednesday night, veteran defenseman Ben Lovejoy has announced that he is retiring from the National Hockey League after 11 seasons.

The 35-year-old made it official during a broadcast on NHL Network on Wednesday night.

Lovejoy was inspiring to many in the league after he broke into the NHL undrafted, joining the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2008-09 season. He managed to win a Stanley Cup with the Penguins back in 2016, contributing two goals and six points while averaging 17:46 of ice time over 24 playoff contests.

After his tenure with the Pens, he also played for  Anaheim Ducks and the New Jersey Devils before finishing his career with the Dallas Stars in 2018-19 after he ended up in Texas at the trade deadline.

He put up a total of 20 goals and 101 points over 544 career games.

Here at Hockey Feed, we wish him all the best moving forward and congratulate him on an impressive career!
