Former NHL All-Star Mark Streit has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey at age 39.

The veteran defenseman signed with the Montreal Canadiens this past offseason after finally winning a Stanley Cup championship with the Pittsburgh Penguins this past June. The veteran managed to find his way into just two games with the Habs this season before being waived and eventually having his contract terminated.

Streit, a Swiss-born offensive defenseman, played 786 career NHL games putting up 96 goals and 434 points with the Habs, Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders.
