Breaking: Stanley Cup winning goalie hits the waiver wire
Keystone Press

According to a report from TSN analyst and NHL insider Bob McKenzie, the Pittsburgh Penguins have placed veteran goaltender Antti Niemi on waivers.

Niemi has been dreadful for the Penguins this season after signing a one-year free-agent deal earlier this summer. In three games so far this season Niemi has put up a 7.49 GAA and .797 Sv%. Yikes.

It’s unclear whether Niemi will be claimed by an NHL team with statistics as dreadful as those, but stranger things have happened. After all, the Vegas Golden Knights are without an NHL capable goaltender seeing as how Marc Andre Fleury and Malcolm Subban are both out long-term. That being said… is Niemi even an NHL level goaltender anymore?
