The St. Louis Blues were dealt a serious blow on Tuesday as defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

The 27-year-old took a puck off his foot in the first period of St. Louis' win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. He left the game, but returned to finish the tilt.

However, he then missed the Blues' matchup against the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.

Through 30 games he ranked second among NHL defensemen in goals (7) and fifth in points (23).

Jordan Schmaltz, who has played 24 games with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, was recalled to replace Pietrangelo.

The Blues are also dealing with the loss of winger Jaden Schwartz, who is expected to miss six weeks with a right ankle injury.

Bad luck...
