Breaking: Star defenseman out after one of the bloodiest fights of the season.

It was going to be a very long uphill climb for the Winnipeg Jets to make the playoffs with the team 9 points out of the playoff picture at the moment, and they just got some news that made that climb even more unlikely to be a success.

Jets head coach Paul Maurice has confirmed that defenseman Jacob Trouba will not be in the lineup when the Jets take on the Nashville Predators this evening, a team that is currently 11 points ahead of them in the standings.

While it's merely speculation, one has to wonder if Trouba's absence was caused by the brutal fight he engaged in with Calgary's Sam Bennett over the week-end, a fight that some are already calling the bloodiest and most exciting fight of this NHL season.
