Breaking: Star forward quits social media due to negativity.

National Hockey League star forward Bobby Ryan has had enough.

The Ottawa Senator has reportedly deleted his twitter account, according to a report from TSN's Ian Mendes, and it was his wife that convinced him to finally take the final step.

“I had been thinking about it and my wife said, ‘You’re talking about it enough, so you should just do it.’”

According to Rishaug it was the negativity that can often be found on social media that weighed on Ryan. Ryan recently suffered an injury and when his team went off on a win streak in his absence there came more mockery from fans. While he never stated that this was what finally pushed him off the social media platform, the timing is at the very least notable.

Ryan did admit that the decision weighed heavily on him as a result of the positive connections he had made however:

“It’s a shame because I’ve had so many great connections with fans on there,” he said. “Some have actually become friends through the direct messaging and that’s the downside of it.”
