He may have just become a top priority at the trade deadline.

Some very big news just got dropped by TSN's Ian Mendes via social media.

Mendes has just reported a quote from Carolina's star center Eric Staal and it sounds like he's already mentally checked out of Raleigh, North Carolina.

"I'm not going to be crushed if a decision is made and I'm moving on," said Staal.

Staal would obviously be an extremely attractive option at the deadline, and although he carries a monster cap hit of $8,250,000 you would have to imagine if the plan is to trade him, and it sounds like it is, that the Hurricanes would retain the maximum allowable salary under the CBA to get a maximum return through a trade. I wouldn't be surprised if the Hurricanes deal him for picks/prospects that they would also be willing to take back some expiring contracts to make the offer even more attractive.

Staal's availability may make him the #1 priority for teams looking to add, and if not #1 very close to the top of the draft board.
