Last season it was Matt Murray seemingly taking over the reigns from one of the National Hockey League's elite goalies in Marc-Andre Fleury and now we may have another major goaltending controversy on our hands.

A report from New York Rangers insider Larry Brooks is now claiming that NHL superstar goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will be benched for the fourth consecutive game in favor of 27-year-old Antti Raanta.

It's possible that the Rangers are resting Lundqvist as he deals with some sort of injury or discomfort, but it seems far more likely that the superior play of Raanta thus far this season is what is earning him all these additional starts. In 21 games this season Lundqvist has a .912 save percentage and a 2.55 goals against average, while Raanata has put up a .943 save percentage and 1.65 goals against average albeit over a smaller sample size of 11 games.

There are already rumblings of a big goalie controversy for the Rangers, and this may very well develop into one of the biggest stories of the NHL season.
