BREAKING: Star Placed On Long-Term Injured Reserve
Keystone Press

As if five consecutive losses was tough enough to digest for the Detroit Red Wings, the team has released news that is surely going to have fans throwing their arms in the air.

Thomas Vanek, who led the team with four goals and four assists through seven games in what many were calling a revitalization of his career, has officially been placed on long-term injured reserve. He sustained a mid-to-lower body injury during the last week of October, and though his status was initially “day-to-day”, it was changed to “week-to-week” shortly thereafter.

Minutes ago, we learned that his injury is a lot more serious than originally anticipated, and the Red Wings organization has placed him on LTIR retroactive of October 25th. There is no word yet on when he is expected to make a return.

In order to fill the hole left behind by Vanek, the Red Wings have also proceeded to call up prospective forward Tyler Bertuzzi from the Grand Rapids Griffins
