Breaking: Stars release update on McKenzie after nasty cut to the eye last night.

The Dallas Stars have released an update on injured forward Curtis McKenzie and the initial news is very promising indeed.

Reports yesterday were that McKenzie had received a cut directly on his eye, but considering the wording of this update from the Stars it sounds like McKenzie avoided the worst of it.

"He has a deep gash around his eye, but right now it doesn't look like there is any permanent eye damage," said Stars GM Jim Nill as per NHL.com. "But they will know more once the swelling goes down."

While McKenzie is still not 100% in the clear, so far the outlook is promising and considering just how much blood was coming from the injury that is a pleasant surprise. Nill admitted that all things considered this was a best-case scenario.

"He'll get checked every day by the doctors, but so far they see no damage to the eye," Nill said. "It's as good as news as you can have."
