The Colorado Avalanche are on pace for the most regulation losses since the Atlanta Thrashers had their expansion season in 1999-2000, and their odds of turning things around just took a big hit.

Mile High Sports is now reporting that starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov will be sidelined at least until the All-Star break with some form of undisclosed injury. The news comes off a performance that saw Varlamov give up five goals and when asked if his goalie had been playing at full health head coach Jared Bednaradmitted that he was not.

While the Avalanche stated that he would be out until at least the All-Star break, based on Bednar's comments it sounds like this may be a long-term injury caused by a re-occurring issue for Varlamov.

“There’s a couple different [treatment] options that we can look at, and maybe he might spend more time than in,” said Bednar. “It’s hard to say, but that’s the doctors and trainers’ call. The players and the doctors and trainers have to make that call, and decide on what they feel is best for him and his career.”

This is the last thing the Avalanche needed.
