Breaking: Sullivan making adjustments for game 2
Keystone Press

The Pittsburgh Penguins find themselves in new territory. Having never trailed in their opening round playoff series’ against both the Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals, the Pens now find themselves in the uncomfortable position of being down 1-0 against the Ottawa Senators. In an effort to remedy the situation and return the series to a draw, head coach Mike Sullivan hints at some possible adjustments for game 2.

“I think after game 1, both sides get a real indication of what the game plans are. So it gives coaching staffs an opportunity to not only assess their own team, but also try to assess their respective opponents and make the necessary adjustments that they need to take in order to make the group have success,” said the Pens bench boss when asked to describe the evolution of the series so far.

Sullivan stopped short of offering up any tangible plans or changes to reporters, but it’s expected that he’ll try to implement a system that enables the Penguins to break out of their zone with more speed. The Sens did a great job of breaking up the Penguin’s forwards in the neutral zone and many analysts attributed that to their ability to slow things down and neutralize the Penguins speed.

Will the adjustments prove to be enough? Pens fans sure hope so!
