Breaking: Sullivan provides devastating update on Evgeni Malkin.

We have an update on Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin and unfortunately the news is not good at all.

According to a breaking news report from the Pittsburgh Penguins, head coach Mike Sullivan has confirmed that Malkin has suffered an "upper body injury." That news comes as relatively little surprise given that fact that Malkin was pulled from tonight's game against the Philadelphia Flyers at the very last minute, but what does come as a surprise is the apparent severity of this injury.

Sullivan has stated that Malkin will now be listed as "week to week" as a result of this injury which would appear to suggest that he will be out for the long term. Although we do not know what has happened to suddenly cause Malkin to be injured there has been some speculation regarding where the injury has come from.

Malkin was the victim of a very stiff looking crosscheck from St. Louis Blues forward Robert Bortuzzo earlier in the week, and following that blow he remained down on the ice for several long moments. Although Malkin did appear to be in a lot of pain initially he would remain in the game and play in all 3 periods, although often times adrenaline can help dull the effect of pain before swelling really starts to set in.

We don't know for certain that the Bortuzzo crosscheck is the source of this injury, but at this time it is our best guest.
