Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan shocked the hockey world with his decision to start rookie netminder Matt Murray over veteran Marc Andre Fleury for game 4 of his team’s Eastern Conference Final against the Ottawa Senators. While Fleury was not solely to blame for a disappointing 5-1 loss in game 3, he did not look good and was replaced by Murray. In game 4, Sullivan’s choice proved to be the right one as Murray held the fort for a crucial 3-2 victory.

It should come as no surprise then that Murray will start tonight’s pivotal game then. It was speculated that Murray would get the start in net for the Pens and Sullivan confirmed the news earlier today at a press conference.

It’s rare to such a dramatic goaltending change at this point of the season, but for Penguins fans it’s nothing new. Last season a nearly identical scenario played out and it resulted in Murray leading his team to a Stanley Cup championship. Does he have what it takes to put the team on his back again? Pens fans certainly hope so.
