Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs might hold their breath a second here.

TSN's Darren Dreger has just spoken with Team Canada head coach Alain Vigneault, who revealed that top forward John Tavares suffered an injury this morning during the club's practice.

The only information given out if that the Maple Leafs centre sustained an upper-body injury. Brent Wallace had noticed earlier that Tavares had left practice early and had been replaced by Tyler Bertuzzi on the top line alongside Sean Couturier and Sam Reinhart.

TSN's Kristen Shilton later revealed that Tavares was on his way back to Toronto for further evaluation by the Maple Leafs' medical staff. The injury he suffered is reportedly an oblique injury.

On Tuesday, Team Canada beat Austria 7-5 in a world hockey championship tuneup game. Canada plays its first game at the 2019 world championship Friday against Finland at Kosice, Slovakia.
