One year after being thrown to the wolves by the Montreal Canadiens and eventually discarded by that team, goaltender Mike Condon may be on the verge of signing a brand new deal.

The 26-year-old netminder has stepped in at a difficult time for the Senators with their starting netminder Craig Anderson dealing with his wife's cancer. Not only did Condon step in but he has proven to be a suitable back up for the Senators and it sounds like the team is looking to reward him

From Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun:

Mike Condon is worried about the present and not the future.

But the Senators goaltender told Postmedia before he returned to the club’s net Thursday night against the Dallas Stars that despite being an unrestricted free agent on July 1 he’d be happy to stay with Ottawa.

Though the Senators have had very preliminary contract discussions with his Buffalo-based agent Michael Wulkan, Condon isn’t going to spend any time worrying about what the future might hold.

It appears the Senators have already begun the negotiating process and while Condon is likely looking at a backup deal, his 31 appearances for the Senators this season have likely earned him several extra dollars.
