Team USA has two more great young players joining their roster for the IIHF World Championships being held in Paris and Cologne.

Defenseman Trevor Van Riemsdyk of the Chicago Blackhawks, and rookie Boston Bruins prospect Charlie McAvoy have announced they will be helping secure Team USA’s blueline.

Trevor Van Riemsdyk, younger brother of Toronto’s James van Riemsdyk, is a defensemen’s defenseman. Other players are about flash, Trevor is about smash. His ability to play physical, cut down the angels, control the ice, and move the puck have made him an impressive shutdown presence on defense in Chicago. He’s played in 158 NHL games since joining the Blackhawks in 2014-15, and has registered 8 goals, 31 points and a career +/- of plus-12 in that time.

McAvoy signed an entry-level contract with the Bruins on April 10th 2017, less than two weeks after his Amateur-Try-Out with the Providence Bruins in the AHL. The 19-year-old played in all six of the Bruins playoff games, and recorded 3 assists. McAvoy earned his place in the NHL with two spectacular seasons playing for Boston University. His NCAA career ended with him scoring 8 goals and 43 assists for 51 points in 75 games Boston University, good for a +/- of plus-19.

Van Riemsdyk and McAvoy will join fellow NHL defenders Jacob Trouba, Danny DeKeyser, Noah Hanifin, and Connor Murphy as Team USA’s defensive corps. NHL stars Jack Eichel and Johnny Gaudreau will be part of the American offense.

The IIHF World Championship begins May 5th, 2017.
