The Calgary Flames are down, but not out. Well…not yet at least. The Flames face elimination tonight as they take on the Anaheim Ducks from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Despite dropping the first three games of the series and squandering a 4-1 lead in game 3, it looks like Flames goaltender Brian Elliott will get the start with the season on the line.

Flames head coach Glenn Gulutzan stopped short of naming Elliott as his team’s starter yesterday, but did in fact confirm this morning that he’d be between the pipes tonight.

Elliott has had an inconsistent season with the Flames and this playoff season serves as a perfect microcosm of his time in Calgary. The 32 year-old native of Newmarket, Ontario posted a 2.55 GAA and .910 Sv% in 49 regular season games and an awful 3.67 GAA and .887 Sv% in his 3 playoff games.

Elliott has expected to provide the Flames with solid goaltending after last season’s abjectly terrible duo of Jonas Hiller and Karri Ramo. Unfortunately, the results have been mixed with Elliott, leading to more questions than answers for the Flames management this offseason.

The other big news is that Hamilton is back in the lineup.
