It wasn’t a surprise then when associate coach Mike Kitchen was relieved of his duties on Monday morning. Who was surprised, however, was the team’s head coach and Kitchen’s long-time friend Joel Quenneville.

Believe it or not, Stan Bowman is getting ready for next season and source from Craig Morgan suggest the Chicago Blackhawks will name Ulf Samuelsson assistant coach to fill the empty spot left by Mike Kitchen. Ulf Samuelsson was the head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Carolina Hurricane’s AHL affiliate.

Samuelsson is a retired Swedish-American defenseman. He played several seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Hartford WhalersPittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, and Philadelphia Flyers. He is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, as a member of the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.
