BREAKING: The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled a defenseman!

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced that they’ve recalled defenceman Gustav Forsling from the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs for the team’s final regular season games.

The move gives the Blackhawks the flexibility to rest some of their veteran defencemen in advance of the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs. Expect Hawks blue line stalwarts like Brent Seabrook or Duncan Keith to sit for one or both of the team’s final regular season games this week.

Acquired in a January, 2015 from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Adam Clendening, Forsling has split his quiet and unassuming 2016-17 campaign between Rockford and Chicago. In 36 games with the Blackhawks the 20-year old Swede has managed just 5 points, with another 8 points in 30 games with Rockford of the AHL. Those certainly aren’t numbers that entice or excite fans, but Forsling can provide the Hawks with reliable and dependable minutes on the team’s third defence pairing while its main contributors take the night off to rest.
