BREAKING: The Colombus Blue Jackets recalled offensive weapon.

Perhaps anticipating a suspension to forward Matt Calvert for his wicked cross check on Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tom Kuhnhackl, the Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they’ve recalled Sonny Milano from the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters.

In the closing moments of last night’s 4-1 loss to the Pens, Calvert broke his stick when delivering a dirty cross-check to the back of Kuhnhackl at center ice. Kuhnhackl doubled over in pain before Calvert dropped him with a body check. The video evidence against Calvert is pretty damning and it’s expected that the NHL’s Department of Player Safety will make a ruling on whether or not the infraction warrants a suspension or not.

In the meantime, the 20 year-old Milano, a first round pick (16th overall) of the Jackets in 2014, could slot into the lineup should the team need him. He’s had a great season in the AHL with the Monsters putting up 18 goals and 47 points in 63 games.
