The Las Vegas Golden Knights were officially made a National Hockey League franchise on trade deadline day and they have wasted little time putting that status to good use.

On Monday the NHL's newest franchise announced the first ever player transaction in history by signing Western Hockey League forward Reid Duke of the Brandon Wheat Kings to an entry-level-contract.

The 21-year-old center has had a big year with the Wheat Kings and Golden Knights general manager George McPhee has clearly demonstrated that he intends to utilize every available avenue to maximize the talent on his roster. With 35 goals and 32 assists for a total of 67 points in 54 games this season in the WHL, Boucher was an asset that McPhee felt he could not afford to pass up at this stage of organizational development.

Duke is expected to join the Golden Knights for their first ever development camp and the end of this WHL season, although the date of that development camp is still up in the air at this time.
