It really, really sounds like the National Hockey League is getting ready to announce it will expand to at least one new location.

According to a report from TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger both the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Player's Association held what he termed the "initial expansion meeting" in New York City yesterday, to begin negotiations on the terms and rules of the expansion draft in the event that such a draft where to occur. Dreger also added that most general managers believe expansion will only include one new team.

This comes off the heals of a report earlier this week that deputy commissioner Bill Daly met with the League's general managers during the general manager's meetings in order to discuss the details of expansion, what players they can protect, and what players would be available in an expansion draft.

Both of these events on their own would be enough to raise questions about the NHL moving towards expansion, both of them together certainly seem to point towards the fact that the NHL has in fact decided to expand with at least 1 more team. Perhaps we are reading too much into this, but there are a lot of signs that the NHL will in fact expand.
