The three finalists for the Norris Trophy have been named and there are no surprised on this list.

With that said this will be one of the most difficult seasons in recent memory to pick a winner, especially when you consider how well all three of these men have played this year, and in very different ways.

The nominess are as follows:

Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators had an incredible offensive season as a defenseman, putting up points at a stunning pace of a point per game for the duration of the entire season, and despite playing on a losing team that was unable to make the playoffs, Karlsson ended the season with a plus minus rating of -2.

Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings is a candidate many feel has long been deserving of the award, and there's no doubt that, while he recorded 30 less points than Karlsson this season, Doughty is the better defensive defenseman among the two, playing some of the toughest minutes in the league and furthermore doing so with one of the heaviest workloads in the NHL as well. Doughty also had a much better plus minus rating of 25, but to be fair he did play for a better team.

Brent Burns of the San Jose Sharks has long been viewed as one of the most underrated defenseman in the National Hockey League, likely a result of him playing a lot of late games on the West coast, meaning less coverage at the national level, especially on the east coast. Burns is likely viewed as more of a long shot with Doughty and Karlsson being the front-runners, but certainly a worthy candidate for this nomination.
