The Winnipeg Jets inked 3-year entry level contract with prospect.

The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they’ve signed their 2015 second round draft choice Jansen Harkins to a three year entry-level contract.

Harkins, a 6’2”, 195 lb center from North Vancouver, BC just wrapped up his WHL career with the Prince George Cougars. He leaves his former team as its all time franchise points leader with 242 points in 275 games. This season he once again led the Cougars in scoring, potting 21 goals and 72 points in 64 games.

Harkins will play out the balance of this season with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose on an amateur try-out contract and begin his new deal in 2017-18. While it’s expected that Harkins will compete for an NHL job in training camp, the former WHL All-Star may require some seasoning in the minors to adapt to the pro hockey game. But, once ready he’ll provide the Jets with some much needed depth down the middle of the ice.
