Justin Abdelkader was absent at the Red Wings' morning skate today and there were concerns over what was going on.

Trade? Injury?

Well now we have the answer, and it isn't pretty.

Abdelkader fought Calgary Flames forward Troy Brouwer in Detroit's loss on Thursday night - playing only 5 shifts following the incident. It appears likely that he suffered the injury in the fight.

The forward has 9 points in 17 games this season.

Jeff Blashill doesn't expect this to be a long-term injury.
