Breaking: The worst is confirmed for Canucks and Edler

Oh man… he’s been such a horse this season too.

According to rock solid Vancouver Canucks source Rick Dhaliwal of Sportsnet 650 radio, Canucks defensemen Alex Edler will be out of the team’s lineup for a “few weeks” following a high ankle sprain or knee sprain suffered in last night’s shootout victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Source - could be a few weeks for Edler, I have heard high ankle sprain or sprained knee.

Ouch… that hurts. Edler has been an absolute for the Canucks this season, putting up five points and an INSANE amount of blocked shots in the Canucks’ first 10 games. In fact, Edler leads ALL NHL defensemen in blocks so far with 39 in 10 games. To put that in perspective teammate Chris Tanev, a human shooter tutor, is 4th in the NHL with 24 blocks.

Edler’s strong play and the fact that his contract expires this upcoming offseason has led to speculation that he could end up on the trading block. Edler is expected to undergo an MRI tomorrow and the team should issue a formal statement regarding his injury at that time.
