We reported you earlier this week the firing of Florido Panthers' head coach Gerard Gallant and his taxi ride back to the airport. While Gallant said in the media today that the team offered for a car service, he didn't wanted to wait so he called a cab.
Gallant's firing still came as a surprise. The Panthers were one point shy of a playoff spot despite playing without two of their top 6 forwards in Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad.
According to Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Gallant almost got fired before the 2016 NHL Draft. "The analytics-driven folks in Florida reportedly wanted to fire Gerard Gallant at the draft last June because he didn’t value the same players they did or play the style they wanted, but held off." said Matheson.
Lasy year, the panthers reached the 100 points mark for the first time in years and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2012. Yet, analytics wanted Gallant out of the equation...
