Early today the Pittsburgh Penguins made a huge move signing Zachary Aston-Reese, the top forward in the current crop of college free agents, to a new National Hockey contract. Now the top defenseman in that group of free agents is also on the verge of signing.

TSN insider Bob McKenzie is reporting that Gavin Bayreuther of St. Lawrence University has narrowed his choice down to just two teams, and those are believed to be the Dallas Stars and the Buffalo Sabres.

Both teams currently have a need on the left side of their blue line, and that is likely the biggest factor in Bayreuther's decision process. Clearly the 22-year old defenseman believes these are the two teams that will give him the best chance to quickly ascend to the NHL level.

No word yet on if Bayreuther is leaning more towards one of these two clubs.
