Breaking: Top goalie prospect will not sign with team that drafted him, will be free agent!

There will be an unexpected goaltender on the free agent market this summer.

In a stunning report from Buffalo Sabres insider John Vogl of the Buffalo News, Sabres general manager Jason Botterill revealed that goaltender Cal Petersen would not be signing with the Sabres, the team that drafted him.

“I don’t believe he’ll be signing with the Buffalo Sabres,” said Botterill as per Vogl's report. “I’ve spoken to Cal. At this time, I think he’s going to probably move to free agency, and we’ll go from there.”

Peterson is coming off a big season for Notre Dame at the NCAA level, having played in 40 games for the college program and recording a 2.22 goals against average and .926 save percentage over that stretch.

Making him even more desirable is the fact that this is now the second straight season where he has shown elite level consistency, having recorded a 2.20 goals against average and .927 save percentage over 37 games the previous year with Notre Dame.

No doubt there will be a number of NHL teams fighting over him this summer.
