Breaking: Top-pair Defenseman injured and it doesn't look good!

The Vancouver Canucks haven't been able to win two straight games since the 20th of October, the last of their 4-game winning streak to start the year. Hockey analysts around the world predicted a long, goal-starved season for the Canucks and they were right.

Things just got worse as the Canucks might very well be without one of their top-pair defenseman for a long period of time. Alexander Edler blocked a shot against the Avalanches saturday night and it appeared to hit him in the hand. Edler left the game during the first period and is expected to be x-rayed today.

Head coach Willie Desjardins said it doesn't look good for Edler:

Although the swedish defenseman wasn't at his best this season, he still averaged close to 24 minutes per game, good enough for the 22nd position in the NHL in ice time.
