Breaking: Top prospect gets his contract terminated
KeyStone Press

The beginning of the 2017-18 NHL season has been tumultuous to say the least for the Montreal Canadiens.

They got another piece of bad news after their miserable start to the season when top prospect Martin Reway decided that he no longer wished to pursue a career in North America.

The former 4th round pick turned into an offensive star in Europe and was highly-touted as an extremely skilled and creative forward. Yet, after battling a severe undisclosed illness, he was forced out of an entire year of hockey.

He battled his way back into shape and took a stab at playing for the Canadiens' AHL affiliate in Laval, but never found his groove with the team. He was scratched for a few of the games, and managed to only put up a couple of assists in his tenure there.

Unable to get into proper shape, it was increasingly difficult to adjust to the pace of the North American game, and so he and the team have decided to mutually-part ways.

Reway was placed on unconditional waivers on Saturday for the purpose of contract termination.
