After news broke earlier this week that the KHL was folding franchises for 2017-18 and that it was nearly $20 million behind in player salaries for 2016-17, it’s hard to imagine that things could get much worse for the world’s second biggest hockey league. However, reports out of Moscow today only shed further light on the league’s shady dealings.

News of the raid was issued by the team itself, which claims:

The raid was prompted by an allegation of embezzlement by a club employee, made in a letter by a senior executive of the Dynamo sports society, which owns the club and has been in dispute with its management.

Embezzlement by a KHL executive? Get out of here!

Regardless of whether the case ultimately ends up in court or not, the news has to be seen as yet another black eye on the unstable league. Sadly, until the 2015 departure of Dynamo Moscow owner Arkady Rotenberg, the team was one of the league’s shining beacons. With the latest developments, there’s little hope for the team to return to its glory days.
