Breaking: Toronto Maple Leafs claims a defenceman!
Keystone Press

Yesterday, the Detroit Red Wings waived one of their defenceman; Alexey Marchenko. Today, the Toronto Maple Leafs claimed him.

Marchenko, a 4-season veteran, was a 7th round pick in 2011 by the Detroit Red Wings. Since then, he played 110 games in the NHL, in which he notched 3 goals and 16 assists for 19 points.

In 30 games this season, Marchy has yet to score a goal but has 6 helpers and has a plus +-6 ratio. At 6"3 and 210 pounds, Marchenko could bring a bit of toughness to Toronto's blueline, something they've been looking at for a while.

The Russian defenceman is signed through the 2017-2018 season with a $1,450,000 cap hit.
