The Boston Bruins have already been decimated by injuries this season but somehow things have gotten even worse.

According to an official report from the Bruins organization the team has lost three additional players following this week's match ups against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday, and against the Dallas Stars on Friday. The Bruins have now officially confirmed reports earlier today that team captain Zdeno Chara has suffered a significant injury and will miss at least the next four weeks before being reevaluated by the organizations medical staff. Reports earlier today suggest that Chara could miss as much as 6 weeks with the injury, and injury that the Bruins have reported is to his left MCL, although the team did not officially confirm that particular detail.

Additionally the Bruins have sent 27 year old defenseman John Moore back to Boston where he will be evaluated by doctors for what the team has described as a lower body injury. The specific nature of Moore's injury is not known at this time and the Bruins will likely wait for him to be evaluated before disclosing those details, if they are disclosed at all.

The big news on the evening however is the update on Bruins star forward Patrice Bergeron. Fans likely already knew something was not quite right with Bergeron following the Friday night match up against the Stars, and match up which saw Bergeron vanish to the Bruins locker room for an extended length of time. Bergeron was driven hard into the boards by Dallas Stars' center Radek Faksa and Bergeron's shoulder appeared to absorb the worst of the impact. It also appeared that when Bergeron did eventually return he was favoring that very same shoulder and additionally he stayed away from the face off circle on the ice which was strange.

The fact that he returned initially seemed like it would be very good news for the Bruins but now the Bruins have confirmed that Bergeron will not play this evening, and in fact is on his way back to Boston instead. Like Moore, Bergeron will be evaluated by the Bruins medical staff before the Bruins provide any additional details on his injury, but needless to say that is very bad news.
