As we reported minutes ago by all accounts Michel Therrien's time as the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens is at an end, even if he has not yet officially been fired.

Despite him still currently holding his job, there are already two names being mentioned by sources as potential replacements for Therrien and both make a ton of sense. First and foremost the Canadiens have made it clear they will only hire French speaking candidates so it's important to note this greatly limits the available candidates.

First on the list is former Canadiens great Guy Carbonneau, who we know thanks to a report from RDS analyst Peter Yannopoulos, has in fact already met with Montreal management, that meeting took place last night and reportedly lasted several hours.

Second on that list is former NHL head coach Marc Crawford who is currently working as a bench boss in the Swiss National League. Bruinsdaily writer Jimmy Murphy was the first to mention the Crawford rumor. Crawford has NHL experience, he speaks French and he has one big ace up his sleeve, he is currently coaching one of most sought after player's at next year's NHL draft, Auston Matthews. With the Canadians currently struggling as badly as they are, they could legitimately end up with one of the top pics in the draft. Even if they don't and acquiring Matthews in on their radar you have to imagine Crawford immediately becomes the favorite to win the hob,

Here's a bonus round, although please keep in mid this is entirely speculation and I have seen no rumors to suggest this is indeed a possibility. Guy Boucher was rumored to be a guy many NHL teams had interest in during the last offseason, and again he speaks French, and if Montreal wants another defense first kind of coach Boucher could very well be the guy.
