We have a Thursday night trade in the National Hockey League.

The Montreal Canadiens have officially announced the acquisition of now former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Nikita Nesterov in exchange for defenseman Jonathan Racine and a 6th round pick in 2017.

The Habs are getting the best player in this deal with Nestrov bringing 119 games of NHL experience to the table when compared to just 1 from Racine. While it's only speculative, this move appears to have largely been motivated by Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman recognizing that he wasn't going to be able to resign Nestrov in the offseason.

With big names like Jonathan Drouin and Tyler Johnson still needing new deals this may have been a move of convenience for the Lightning GM.
