Detroit Red Wings first round draft picks Dennis Cholowski (2016 - 20th overall) and Michael Rasmussen (2017 - 9th overall) have been named to Team Canada’s WHL roster for the upcoming 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series.

Cholowski, a defenseman from Langley, BC, has scored a remarkable four goals and nine points in just eight games to start the season with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars. It’s the 19-year-old’s first season of major junior hockey following a three-year stint in the BCHL and an impressive campaign at St. Cloud State

Rasmussen, a center from Surrey, BC,  has also gotten off to a hot start in the WHL. The 6’6”, 215 lb 18-year-old has four goals and nine points in just seven games for the Tri-City Americans so far this season. Last season he managed 32 goals and 55 points in 50 games, but look for him to blow up those numbers this season with the Americans.

With any luck and a good showing at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, both Cholowski and Rasmussen should put themselves on the radar for the upcoming World Junior Championships in January. From there, the sky is the limit for these two youngsters.
