A National Hockey League veteran is starting down the end of his season.

A breaking news report from Sportsnet insider Roger Millions has revealed that the injury to two-time Stanley Cup Champion Kris Versteeg is very serious indeed, and it may require surgery to correct.

Millions is also reporting that the injury is similar to the one that he suffered in 2012, and that if he were to go under the knife for repairs it would put his entire season in jeopardy.

This could prove to be a huge loss for the Calgary Flames as Vertseeg was not only a flexible piece that bounced between their third and fourth lines, but he also played a pivotal role on the power play for the Flames as well.

Still no word on the specific nature of the injury although it has been confirmed as a "lower-body" injury.
