Breaking: Two time Stanley Cup winner announces shocking retirement!

We were not expecting this announcement at all.

In a surprise announcement Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston has reported that he has been informed by the National Hockey League Player's Association of the retirement of veteran forward Brad Richards.

For many fans it will be difficult to picture a league without him, and with him having played for so many organizations including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings, it's likely that he will be missed by a great many fans around the league as well.

Richards will end his NHL career with a very impressive 1126 games played and over that stretch he contributed 298 goals and 632 assists for a total of 932 career points. He also of course has his name engraved twice on Lord Stanley's Cup, once as a member of the Lightning in 2004 and incredibly 11 years later as a Blackhawk in 2015.

We are sure he will find great success in whatever challenge he chooses to tackle next, and we wish him nothing but the best.
