A former National Hockey League star is in some serious trouble.

According to a report published in the early hours of the morning on Friday in the Boston Globe, Kevin Stevens, a former two time Stanely Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been charged in federal court for drug trafficking.

From the Boston Globe report:

Stevens, 51, of Pembroke, and another man, Christopher Alonardo, who is in his late 40s, from Medford, are charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute oxycodone around the fall of 2015, according to court records.

They are being held until a detention hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

Stevens had his share of struggles with drug abuse while in the NHL, and considering the type of drug he is involved in, there is some belief he is still plagued by the same demons he faced when he entered the NHL's Substance Abuse Program in 2002.

It's unclear at this time how severe of a punishment Stevens is facing, but federal charges for a controlled substance like oxycodone are no joke.
