We have a minor deal to report.

According to multiple reports the Washington Capitals and Dallas Stars have completed a minor deal that will see two young American Hockey League defensemen swap places.

The Capitals organization will be giving 23-year-old right-handed shot Darren Dietz and in exchnage will receive 24-year-old left-handed shot Mattias Backman from the Stars organization.

Dietz, a former Montreal Canadiens draft pick in 2011, has appeared in 39 games for the Hershey Bears this season, recording 6 goals and 6 assists for twelve points and a plus minus rating of +5. His last stint in the NHL was in the 2015-2016 season when he appeared in 13 games for the Canadiens.

Backman on the other hand is a former Detroit Red Wings draft pick, and was also selected at the 2011 NHL Draft. Backman has appeared in 41 games for the Texas Stars this season recording 3 goals and 8 assists for 12 total points and a plus minus rating of +9. Unlike Dietz however Backman does not have NHL experience as he has yet to crack an NHL roster.
