The Toronto Maple Leafs have lost one of their veteran forwards.

According to an official report from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization the team has lost 29 year old forward Tyler Ennis to an injury on Saturday night and he will not be returning to the game. Ennis was ruled out of the 3rd period due to what is being described as an ankle injury, although no word yet on where that injury actually occurred.

If I had to speculate there was a moment during the game when a point shot from Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly was deflected in front of the net, and if you look at the replay below it looks like that shot may have actually caught Ennis' ankle. Now to be clear that is merely speculation on my part but if I had to place a wager that would be where my money was.

It's a tough break for the Maple Leafs who have been battling with injuries at the forward position all season. It will be especially bad for the team if this proves to be a long term injury for Ennis, although at this time we have no reason to believe it will be. The question now of course moves to who will potentially replace Ennis in the Maple Leafs line up moving forward?

The most likely candidate would currently appear to be 23 year old Trevor Moore, a young player who has been outstanding for the Maple Leafs this season at the American Hockey League level. Moore has appeared in 26 AHL regular season games thus far and has 16 goals and and 7 assists for a total of 23 points over that stretch. Considering his high level of production at the AHL level there has been some excitement from the fan base to see him get a shot at the NHL, and this may finally be his shot.

Of course there are likely other options on the table and I would not be surprised to see someone other than Moore get the call up depending on the organizations needs. That being said if I was a betting man I would lean towards Moore.
