Things do not sound good.

The New York Islanders lost one of their best players to injury on Friday night and now it sounds like he may be out for a considerable length of time.

It's unclear exactly how forward Josh Bailey, the 4th leading scorer in the entire National Hockey League, was injured during a match against the Pittsburgh Penguins, but we do know he is currently being hampered by a lower-body injury.

Bailey would leave the game and did not come out for the second period, and now head coach Doug Weight has provided an update on his status that, while vague, does not sound the least bit promising.

According to Fishler Report correspondant Rob Taub, Weight used words like "concerned" and "drained" after the game and when describing the situation with Bailey he added that things did not look too good.

Bailey has been on fire this season, recording 12 goals and 38 assists for a whopping 50 points in just 42 games played and a long-term injury could have a drastic impact on the Islanders franchise both this season and moving forward.

No word yet on when we can expect an official medical update on Bailey.
