After things had been quiet on the Jarome Iginla front for several weeks now, we got some positive news on Tuesday.

While Iginla does not currently appear to be any closer to signing with an National Hockey League organization whether on a professional tryout offer or on a new contract, it looks like that decision could be coming soon.

TSN insider Darren Dreger is reporting that Iginla is hoping that he will receive medical clearance following minor hip surgery to resume skating this week, something that could be the first step to him getting offers from NHL teams.

While it seems clear that if Iginla had his way he would be returning to the NHL this season on a contending team, Dreger also added in his report that both the Spengler Cup and the Winter Olympic Games in South Korea could be options for the NHL veteran.

Of course an NHL contract would make Iginla ineligible for participation in the Olympics, so we expect that if an offer is in fact going to come from an NHL team, it will likely come shortly after Iginla gets back on the ice.
