The Detroit Red Wings' leading scorer and early-season revelation Thomas Vanek was placed on the team’s long-term injured reserve earlier this week due to a hip injury. Initially, he was deemed as being “day-to-day” and his status was changed to “week-to-week”, but it turns out his injury was worse than anybody had originally anticipated.

There is good news coming out of the Red Wings’ routine game day morning practice, as the 32-year-old veteran began skating before the rest of his teammates took to the ice. Reportedly, he will not be ready to play before November 18th, and more updates will surely follow.

Through the seven regular season games in which he featured, the Austrian posted four goals and eight points while boasting a plus-5 rating. Half of his goals came with the man advantage, as he added two more points to his power play totals by being a strong, net-front presence.
