After injuring his knee last week, promising rookie forward Andreas Athanasiou was initially expected to miss approximately two to three weeks.

Now, it seems that his rehabilitation is not progressing as rapidly as the Detroit Red Wings had hoped, and head coach Jeff Blashill announced moments ago that the 22-year-old will miss an additional two weeks, according to Ansar Khan of MLive.com:

While Athanasiou posted two goals in his last five games prior to his injury as well as a total of four goals and and five points through 13 games, it appeared as though he was finally starting to find his groove. No further details were provided:

Moreover, Blashill officially announced that Thomas Vanek will be ready for game action this upcoming Sunday as the Red Wings take on the Calgary Flames. He will certainly be a welcomed addition, as he led the team with four goals and eight points in seven games prior to his hip injury that forced the team to place him on the long-term injured reserve.
