Breaking: Vegas ship out Haula days before his wedding!

The Vegas Golden Knights have no other choice but to make room on their cap space.

Late on Wednesday night, they traded Erik Haula to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Nicolas Roy

Last season was a tough one for Haula, who might benefit from the change of scenery. He missed the final 67 games of the 2018-19 season after suffering a major knee injury Nov. 6. He  underwent surgery shortly after and will be ready for training camp… now in Raleigh.

According to team insider Jesse Granger of The Athletic, Haula is set to get married this Saturday in Las Vegas.

Not the wedding gift he expected from the Knights we bet.

However, Vegas needs to clear out some cap space ahead of the upcoming season. The cap floor is quite lower than first anticipated and moves will be required to be made by new GM Kelly McKrimmon. The Golden Knights already have a projected cap hit of $89,024,999, according to Cap Friendly: moving Haula’s $2.75 million contract lowers that to $86,274,999.

As for the Hurricanes, they are parting with Roy, a 22-year-old prospect who played just seven games in the NHL. While he has yet to record a point in the big league, he had 17 goals and 19 assists in 69 games for the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers this season.

While the move does not necessarily improve the Golden Knights' roster for the upcoming season it does make room for the hefty contracts given to players like William Karlsson and Mark Stone.

More to come from Vegas, that's for sure.
