There's some troubling news surrounding Kris Versteeg of the Calgary Flames circling today.
Versteeg was recently placed on injured reserve due to an undisclosed lower-body injury. He was originally listed as day-to-day, but may now find himself on LTIR.
A huge part of the top power play unit, Versteeg's role will need to be replaced, and if he indeed undergoes season-ending surgery, it's unclear as of this moment whether or not they'll replace him by committee, through a promotion, or by trade.
Mark Jankowski replaced Versteeg on the top power play, but they just weren't in sync, unable to capitalize on any of their opportunities.
Hopefully this isn't career-ending.
Versteeg only has 8 points this season, but has proven his value on the power play. He posted 37 points for the Flames in 69 games last season, good for about half a point per game.
